JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 14, 2003) - During its bi-monthly meeting last week, the Pirate Club named new officers for 2003-04. Andy Whetsel, executive vice president for Citizen Bank-Tri-Cities, agreed to begin his first tenure as president of the Pirate Club and will replace Tom Seaton, owner of the Firehouse Restaurant in Johnson City, who spent the past two years as president. In addition to Whetsel, Johnson City School Board member Marcy Walker was chosen vice president, Spherion Staffing owner Carol Trahan was named secretary, and retired Kingsport businessman Jim Wells was selected treasurer. "We are happy to have so many leaders in our community that want to be a part of helping our student-athletes," said Jo Anne Paty, executive director of the Pirate Club. "The Pirate Club provides a priceless service to young people, and to accomplish our goals we need the support of people throughout our area. These newly chosen board members care about the scholarships we provide and they want to see our work continue." The sole purpose of the Pirate Club Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarship dollars to student-athletes at East Tennessee State University.
