Boone, N.C.(November 2, 2003) - The East Tenessee State Bucs women's soccer team (12-5-0 overall, 7-4-0 SoCon) were defeated by the Mountaineers (11-4-3, 5-3-2)2-0 in the last regular season game of the year at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The first half yielded a successful offensive push by the Mountaineers, who scored twice to put the pressure on the Bucs. Renee Stetkevich scored first for ASU when she sent a free kick from the sideline that bounced off ETSU keeper Heather Sanden (Manassas, Va.) and into the goal at the 16:29 mark. The second goal came 21 minutes later when Staci Smith beat two ETSU defenders and drove 10 yards untouched to score. The score would remain 2-0 in the second half as both teams clamped down on defense. Breland Meany recorded her seventh shutout of the season for the Mountaineers. Sanden recorded eight saves in goal for the Bucs. ASU outshot the Bucs 17-7 in the contest. This is the regular season finale for both Appalachian and ETSU as both programs are heading into post season play beginning November 6 in Greensboro N.C.
