SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 22, 2003) -- East Tennessee State's Kate Steidle (Waynesboro, Va.) has been named the TIAA-CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 22. Steidle, a senior outside hitter on the Buccaneers' volleyball team, led her squad with 3.27 kills per game last week to go along with her seven service aces (0.64 per game). She tied a season-high attack percentage of .400 in a 3-0 sweep of Chattanooga on Tuesday night, equaling a mark she set last Wednesday versus Furman. On Sunday, Steidle recorded her third double-double of the season against Wofford, while picking up season-highs in kills (19), digs (13), attacks (46), aces (4), and blocks (3). For the week, Steidle hit for an attack percentage of .321 in a total of three matches. "Kate is a very diciplined person and has an incredible work ethic both on and off the court," said ETSU head coach Lindsey Devine. "By her winnning this award, it reflects the hard work that she puts forth on a daily basis." Steidle is an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council at ETSU. Steidle carries a 3.530 GPA as a Pre-med/biology major with a minor in criminology. TIAA-CREF, with $290 billion in assets under management (8/31/03), is a Fortune 100 company and a diversified national financial services organization, including the premier pension system for educational and research employees.
