Charleston, S.C. (October 24, 2003) -- East Tennessee State swept The Citadel Friday night, 3-0, in McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs (3-17, 0-11 SoCon) played three intense games, but could not put up numbers to overcome the ETSU. The Buccaneers won by scores of 19-30, 18-30 and 20-30, extending their record to 6-17, 4-7 SoCon. "East Tennessee State is a good team," remarked head coach Wendy Anderson. "We made a comeback in the third game, but could not sustain it." Senior middle hitter Lindesy Hodge led the Bulldogs with 18 kills, one service ace. Sophomore outside hitter Stefanie Farris contributed 10 kills to the Bulldog offense while senior setter Desiree Browning tallied 37 assists on the night. The Bucs were led by junior outside hitter Karen Freeburg (New Castle, Ind.), sophomore right side hitter Sara Scandiffio )(Purcellville, Va.) and freshman outside hitter Kelsey Sherich (Ogallala, Neb.), who contributed 14,11 and 9 kills, respectively. Freeburg had no attack errors on 22 attempts, giving her a .636 attack percentage for the evening -- second best all-time at ETSU. Sophomore setter Kristi Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) contributed a match-high eight digs and 40 assists for East Tennessee State ETSU will remain in Charleston until Saturday, as they take on the College of Charleston, which is still undefeated in the Southern Conference (18-4, 9-0 SoCon). The match will begin at 2 p.m. in John Kresse Arena. The Buccaneers will be looking to put an end to Charleston's SoCon record 27 consecutive conference wins.
