Georgia Southern defeats ETSU volleyball, 3-0

STATESBORO, Ga. (November 9, 2003) - Georgia Southern went on to complete its perfect home season, by defeating East Tennessee State, 3-0 (30-20, 30-19, 30-16) Sunday. With the win, the Eagles (21-9, 15-1 SoCon) claim their 13th straight conference win, and close out their home season with a 10-0 record. For the Eagles, Senior Martina Veiglova led the way, with 19 kills, 11 digs, two service aces and three total blocks, while maintaining a .500 attack percentage. Fellow senior Erin Martin added seven kills, two digs, three service aces and two block assists. Senior libero Megan Lippi contributed with 17 digs and one assist, while senior Christina Lentz added three kills, two digs, three block assists, one service ace, and a .429 hitting percentage. The Bucs Jen Sartor (Toronto, Ontario) and Kate Steidle (Waynesboro, Va.) each contributed nine kills on the day, while setter Kristi Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded 31 assists. Libero Natalie Pittenger (Gaston, Ind.) added eight digs. In the first game, the Eagles rallied behind Veiglova's eight kills. Setter Susan Winkelman notched two service aces while Jennifer Charles added two block assists and one block solo to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead, winning game one, 30- 20. In game two, GSU's five service aces proved to be too much for the the Bucs, as the Eagles went on to win game two, 30-19, taking a two game advantage into the break. The Eagles completed the sweep in game three, holding the Bucs to a -.040 attack percentage. On the day, the Eagles recorded 12 service aces to the Bucs two. GSU committed only eleven attacking errors, while the Bucs had 23. ETSU will wrap-up the regular season this weekend at with a pair of matches in Brooks Gym. The Buccaneers will host UNC Greensboro at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 before taking on Elon on Nov. 15 beginning at 7 p.m.
