ETSU Women's Tennis Wraps Up The 2003 Southern Intercollegiate Tournament

COLUMBIA, S.C. (November 2, 2003) - The Buccaneer women's tennis team concluded play at the 2003 Southern Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by the University of South Carolina Sunday. East Tennessee State women's tennis team finished first in one doubles flight and third in another. Buccaneer doubles team of Mariya Ilyina (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Sylwia Ziolkowska (Warsaw, Poland) defeated the pair of Aguilar and Nezerok of Armstrong Atlantic University 8-4 to win the B2 doubles flight. The pair of Jewel Aldea (Charleston, S.C.) and Courtney McInnis (Waterboro, Maine) also won their final doubles match of the tournament to take third place. In singles competition, the Buccaneers won two of their seven backdraws matches. This marks the end of fall tournament action for the women's tennis team. "Overall, we played well in this tournament, and it was a good end to the fall tournament season," said head coach Steve Brooks. The Buccaneers will now begin preparing for their regular season which begins with the VCU quad tournament January 31 and February 1. Sunday's Results Singles A1 - Sylwia Ziolkowska (ETSU) def.
