RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 25, 2004) - The East Tennessee State University men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the VCU 4-1 Invitational at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. The Buccaneers went 3-1 in the tournament with wins over Campbell, Charlotte, and Richmond. ETSU's only loss in the weekend was to host No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth. The Buccaneers swept UNC Charlotte early Sunday morning taking all five points with singles wins by senior Alejandro Salazar (Arequipa, Peru), senior Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina), junior Moises Serrano (Bucaramanga, Columbia), and freshman Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela). The pairing of sophomore Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) and freshman Felix Insurraulde (Paraguay) won the doubles point for the Bucs with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (3). In their afternoon match, the Bucs showed consistency as the team went 4-1 against Richmond. The Bucs again won all for of their singles matches, but drop the doubles point. Fiuri and Insurraulde battled against Richmond's David Donn and Jeppy Moss forcing a third set but lost with the close score of 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. The Buccaneers have a week off before they return to action on Feb. 7 to match up against Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. RESULTS ETSU 5, Charlotte 0 Singles Oscar Posada (ETSU) def.
