JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 12, 2004) - The No. 69 East Tennessee State men's tennis team swept Southern Conference opponent Davidson in a home contest Monday afternoon, 7-0. ETSU improves to 15-5 overall and remains perfect in conference at 8-0, while Davidson falls to 9-9, 2-6. ETSU started the match by garnering the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and Alejandro Salazar (Arequipa, Peru) went 9-8 against Rob Haywood and Russ Burns in the No. 1 slot. At No. 2, Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Moisés Serrano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) defeated Davidson's Rob Gould and John Bolton in an 8-6 decision. In the No. 3 position, Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) and Felix Insaurralde (Asunción, Paraguay) defeated Bryan Stonestreet and Porus Jetli by a score of 9-8. In singles action, ETSU continued to rack up the points in the sweep with wins from Posada at No. 1 (6-3, 6-2), Salazar at No. 2 (6-4, 6-3), Iglesias at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2), Fiuri at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3), Serrano at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1), and Insaurralde at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2). ETSU travels to Boone, N.C. tomorrow April 13 to continue Southern Conference action against Appalachian State University before returning home for its last match of the season against UNC Greensboro on April 17.
