Columbia, Mo. (Oct. 3, 2003) - Four members of the East Tennessee State softball team have been recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for their efforts in the classroom. Seniors Julia Chance (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Rhea Holler (Peoria, Ariz.), along with junior Amy Moore (Jacksonville, Fla.) have been named scholar-athletes for the 2002-03 academic year. "I am extremely proud of Julia, Rhea, and Amy," said ETSU head coach Amy Fuller. "They work hard to be the best they can in the classroom and on the field. This success is reflective of the strong academic and athletic tradition that we want for the softball program here at East Tennessee State." Student-athletes must have acquired a 3.5 (4.0) grade point average or higher for the year in order to qualify for the individual honor. ETSU softball, which is currently in its fourth season as a varsity sport, is coming off a runner-up finish in the 2003 Southern Conference Tournament. On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Buccaneers will host the ETSU Fall Round Robin Tournament at Metro-Kiwanis Park in Johnson City.
