JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2003) - ESPN confirmed Tuesday during a national teleconference announcement that the East Tennessee State University men's basketball team has been offered an invitation to participate in the network's 2004 Bracket Busters Saturday. The event, which features 46 teams representing 11 conferences, pits programs with NCAA Tournament-caliber teams into a 23-game, one-day event at multiple sites around the country. A total of 10 games will be televised, including five games on ESPN and ESPN2, and the remaining five games on ESPN's Full Court service or regional syndication. The other 13 games will not be televised. "We're excited to be a part of the event," said ETSU's first-year head coach Murry Bartow. "It's a great event on a national level and it could be very beneficial to our program from a scheduling standpoint. With the potential television element, it really adds some excitement for our players, our fans and our program." Bracket Busters Saturday is scheduled for Feb. 21, and pairings for the day's games will be made on Jan. 31. The Bucs will be on the road for this season. The Buccaneers are coming off a 2002-03 season which saw them finish with a 20-11 record, win their third straight Southern Conference North Division championship, and capture their first SoCon Tournament title since 1992. ETSU's season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a 76-73 loss to No. 2-seeded Wake Forest, but the Bucs return a wealth of talent this season and expect to challenge for yet another championship.
