JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (November 14, 2003) - East Tennessee State University men's basketball coach Murry Bartow announced on Friday that Port Richey, Fla., native Andrew Reed has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Buccaneers. Reed, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward, will be a four-year letterwinner for Ridgewood High School where he plays under head coach Gary Anders. The all-conference, all-county, and honorable mention all-state player averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game during his junior season at Ridgewood. "We're excited that Andrew has chosen East Tennessee State," said Bartow, whose team will open its 2003-04 season next Friday at Houston. "He's a great fit in terms of what we look for in this program. He's a talented player with a tremendous up side, he's a great person, and a phenomenal student. He's the kind of player we want at ETSU." The son of Penelope Reed and the late Robert Reed, Andrew was a member of the Pasco Schools Leadership Council and played for Nike Team Florida in 2003. He plans to major in engineering in college. Bartow said Reed provides the skills the Bucs desire in this year's recruiting class. "He's very athletic, very bouncing, and has great instincts," Bartow said. "And he fits what we need from a standpoint of getting help inside."
