Lady Bucs golf finish fifth at Minnesota Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Sept. 21, 2003) - The East Tennessee State women's golf team held its Saturday position on Sunday at the Minnesota Invitational, finishing fifth in the team competition at the 6,108-yard, Par 72 Les Bolstad Golf Course. The Lady Bucs finished 27 strokes behind first-place and home-standing University of Minnesota. Minnesota's Terra Petsinger made it a sweep for the Gophers and topped the leaderboard at 12-over, while ETSU sophomore Laura Diaz (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) showed her continued improvement and maturation as a player, finishing a team-best 26-strokes over par and tied for 14th (80-81-81=246). Meanwhile, the rest of the Bucs finished in the Top 30, with sophomore Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) tying for 21st at 244. Other ETSU finishers included junior Robin Downes (Johnson City), who tied for 24th at 245, while senior Kristen Fletcher and sophomore Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario) both tied at 27th at 246. The Lady Bucs will be in action again Oct. 13-14 at the Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C.
