ETSU women's golf fires program-record 299 at Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate

(October 13, 2003) - The East Tennessee State University women's golf team set a program-record with a second-round score of 299 during Monday's play at the Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate. In addition, senior Kristen Fletcher (Cookeville) and sophomore Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) fired career-best scores for two rounds, with Fletcher posting a 3-over 147 and Barton finishing at 5-over 149.
Fletcher's team-best 147 (75-72) was good enough to place her tied for fifth individually as the Lady Bucs finished in eighth-place after two rounds of play at the Bradford Creek Golf Club.
Fletcher will enter Tuesday's final round play five strokes back of individual leader Jessica Krasny of host school East Carolina. Meanwhile, Krasny's teammates also put together a solid outing as East Carolina sits atop the team leaderboard, 23 strokes ahead of the eighth-place Lady Bucs. East Carolina is four strokes ahead of second-place Mississippi State, and Krasny holds a three-stroke lead over her teammate Adrienne Millican and Mississippi State's Amanda Mathis.
Along with Fletcher and Barton, who placed tied for 16th, the Lady Bucs' Robin Downes (Johnson City) ended the day at 158 (14-over), Laura Diaz (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) posted a 160 (16-over), and freshman Vanessa Breeding (Morristown) ended the day at 174 (30-over).
