Brooks ties for 10th, leads Lady Buc golfers to 6th-place finish
at BSC Southern Shootout
Tuesday, February 17, 2004 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (February 17, 2004) - Sophomore Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario Canada) finished tied for 10th after final round play at the BSC Shootout on Tuesday, helping lead the East Tennessee State University's women's golf team to a sixth-place finish in the 15-team field.Brooks finished with rounds of 82 and 80 at the Greystone Golf Club, as the Lady Bucs finished 37 strokes behind team champion Jacksonville State. Birmingham Southern, the host team, finished nine strokes back in second place, followed by Mercer. Birmingham Southern's Caitlin Ogren ran away with the individual title, winning by four strokes over Jacksonville State's Marilen Ruiz. Brooks finished 10 strokes back of Ogren, who posted a two-round score of 152. As for the rest of the Lady Bucs, sophomores Ashley Barton (Seffner) and Laura Diaz (Aquadilla, P.R.) posted scores of 164 and 172, respectively. Meanwhile, senior Kristen Fletcher (Cookeville, Tenn.) fired a 172 and freshman Vanessa Breeding (Morristown, Tenn.) ended at 173. The BSC Shootout marked the Lady Bucs first event of the spring season, and they will return to action March 6-7 at the Lady Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, S.C.
