Davies, ETSU men's golf both place 7th at Seminole Intercollegiate
Tuesday, March 02, 2004 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 2, 2004) - East Tennessee State freshman Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) continued to perform well early in his collegiate golf career, finishing seventh at the Seminole Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Golden Eagle Country Club.Davies shot even par over the final two rounds (75-74-70=219 +3) to finish five strokes behind individual champion Tigh VanLeeuwen of Alabamba-Birmingham. VanLeeuwen picked up the title in a playoff over Charleston's Kellen Altman. In the team competition, Georgia State took the team title by five strokes over Central Florida. In two events this spring, Davies has finished in the Top 10 twice, having placed seventh at the Puerto Rico Classic two weeks ago. Along with Davies, sophomore Noel Kavanagh (Westport, Ireland) finished 23rd at 12-over, while sophomore Andrew Paduch (Johnson City, Tenn.) tied for 27th at 14-over. In addition, junior Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) tied for 38th and freshman Stephen Arnold finished 55th. The Bucs will be in action again March 8-9 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
