ETSU men's golf signs Irish standout McNamara

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 29, 2004) - East Tennessee State University men's golf coach Fred Warren announced on Thursday that Limerick, Ireland, native Cian McNamara has signed a letter of intent to play golf for the Buccaneers beginning in the fall of 2004. McNamara is one of the top young amateur players in Ireland, winning the 2002 Junior British Open and Irish Boys Championships, as well as the 2003 Munster Boys Championship and the 2004 Munster Youth title. A member of the Irish Boys European and Home International Team, McNamara is also a two-time selection to the Great Britain & Ireland Boys Team. McNamara was the captain of his high school golf team and also enjoys playing soccer. The son of Dermot and Eleanor McNamara, Cian - which is pronounced Key-an - is expected to major in sports management. He joins a long list of Irish players to have competed at ETSU, including standouts such as Keith Nolan, Eamonn Brady, Bryan Omelia and John-Paul Fitzgerald. The ETSU men's golf program has built a consistent winning tradition, participating in 15 NCAA Tournaments and winning 16 Southern Conference championships.
