Buccaneer Volleyball Camps a Huge Success

Monday, July 22, 2002

Johnson City, Tenn. (July 22, 2002) -- At the conclusion of three of six scheduled East Tennessee State University summer volleyball camps, the 2002 programs have been a resounding success. Twenty-five teams traveled to participate in Buccaneer team camps this summer, up from five teams last year. This year, five teams traveled from eight hours or further from Johnson City. Head coach Deane Webb and his coaching staff offered two sessions, one for varsity teams and one targeted for JV programs. 135 campers pre-registered for the setter/hitter clinic, up from 40 in last year's camp. The coaches are expecting 50-60 campers at the defensive clinic which is in its first year. Middle school and elementary camps are at the end of July. "Wow! It's been a great week of camp," said Webb this past weekend. "The camp has gone very well, and I am ecstatic about our growth from five to 25 teams in one year. Because we had to turn away so many people from our setter/hitter clinic, we'll definitely schedule two setter/hitter clinics next summer. I am glad that in one week 300-400 girls had the opportunity to be on our campus and experience ETSU. It's been a tiring week, but i'm already looking forward to next summer!"
