Spartanburg, S.C. (November 1, 2002) - East Tennessee State freshman Jewel Aldea (Charleston, S.C.) coasted her way into the quarterfinals of the Wofford Fall Classic Friday night in Spartanburg, S.C. Aldea defeated Netzeli Reyes of Charleston Southern 6-2, 6-4 then went on to beat Erin Donovan of UNC Charlotte 6-4, 6-3. "Jewel showed signs today of why I recruited her, she played very well," said ETSU head coach Steve Brooks. ETSU had all seven players advance to the second round with only Aldea advancing into the Quarterfinals. "We played okay in the first round, but we need to become more mentally tough by the spring," said Brooks. "We have a chance to redeem ourselves tomorrow." The tournament will continue tomorrow and conclude on Sunday Nov. 3.
