Women's tennis falls to Campbell University, 6-1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 8, 2003) - East Tennessee State University's women's tennis team fell, 6-1, to host Campbell University Saturday at the Nisbet Tennis Center. Kerstin Stockinger defeated freshman Sylwia Ziolkowska (Warsaw, Poland) 6-3, 6-1 at number one singles. At number two singles, Campbell's Pascale Veraverbeke defeated Gemma Halim (Jakarta, Indonesia) 6-4, 4-6 (10-5). Carmen Linder defeated Jessica Irey (Clewiston, Fla.) 6-2, 6-2 at number three singles. Isabel Declercq defeated Buccaneer junior Courtney McInnis (Waterboro, Maine) 6-1, 6-0 at the number four position. Ingrid Stockinger defeated Tatiana Arriaran (Cochabamba, Bolivia) 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at the number five spot. Buccaneer freshman, Jewel Aldea (Charleston, S.C.) defeated Lindsey Hughes, 6-4, 6-1 at the number six spot for ETSU's only victory of the day. The Camels swept the three doubles matches with K. Stockinger and Linder defeating Ziolkowska and McInnis, 8-1. Veraverbeke and Declercq defeated Halim and Irey, 9-7 and I. Stockinger and Hughes defated Arriaran and Aimee Villavicencio (Lexington, Ky.), 8-4. The Buccaneers will return to action Feb. 15 for their first home matches of the season. ETSU will take on Carson-Newman and North Greenville College, with the first match beginning at 9 a.m.
