Thursday, August 08, 2002

Johnson City, Tenn. (Aug. 8, 2002) - Katie Weiss, head women's golf coach at East Tennessee State, has resigned her position with the University to take the head women's golf coaching job at the University of Minnesota it was announced today. ETSU's coach for the last two years, Weiss saw her team shoot a school record 302 in the final round of the Great Smokies Women's Intercollegiate this past season to come home with a third place finish among 25 teams. During the spring the Bucs never finished lower than 10th in a tournament, bringing home three top-five finishes. At the Southern Conference Tournament Weiss saw one of her players, Mimmie Dymling, finish second, the top finish ever for an ETSU women's golfer at the championship. "We hate to see Katie go," said ETSU director of athletics Todd Stansbury. "We appreciate all she has done for our women's golf program. We wish her the best of luck in her new position at Minnesota. We will start our search for a new head coach immediately. It will be a national search and we expect to be able to bring in an extremely capable, high caliber coach. It is my hope that we can do this search as quickly as possible and get a new coach in place."
