ETSU women sixth after first day of SoCon Golf Championships
Sunday, April 20, 2003WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (April 20, 2003) - The East Tennessee State women's golf team shot a team score of 320 to finish the first round of the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championships in sixth place Sunday at the Waynesville Golf and Country Club.
Junior Kristen Fletcher (Cookeville) led the way for the Buccaneers, shooting a 6-over-par 78 to finish tied for 13th. Meanwhile, freshmen Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario) and Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) both finished tied for 20th at 8-over. Sophomore Robin McCarley (Johnson City) finished the first day tied for 26th at 10-over, while junior, Danielle O'Reilly (Vancouver, British Columbia) wrapped up the first day tied for 33rd at 13-over-par.
Home-standing Western Carolina is currently leading the event at 19-over 298, besting second-place Furman by six strokes. Charleston's Jennifer Bridwell and Western Carolina's Brandy Andersen are atop the individual leaderboard at 1-under 71.
