WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (April 21, 2003) - The East Tennessee State University women's golf team made up one position during Monday's second round of the Southern Conference Championshiops at the Waynesville Golf and Country Club, but the Bucs are still several strokes back of front-running Western Carolina entering Tuesday's third and final round.

Rain-delayed the start of the second round, but after finally getting off to a shotgun start, the Catamounts secured first place alone in the eight-team field with a two-day total of 591 on the 5,900-yard course. Defending champion Furman improved its score by 10 strokes, carding a 294 to give them 598 overall.

Western Carolina freshman Brandy Andersen shot a 69 for 3-under-par, giving her a two-day total of 140 to put her in first place alone. Furman's Brandi Jackson closed in on the leader, also recording a 69 in round two to give her 143 overall.

The final round of the Championship will tee off at 8:56 am Tuesday.
