ETSU tied for 7th at Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational
Chase Baldwin led the way for the Bucs Saturday, April 05, 2003 AUGUSTA, Ga. (April 5, 2003) - In an event that features 14 teams ranked in the nation's Top 50 - including 12 in the Top 30 - the East Tennessee State men's golf team fired its best first-day, two-round score of the season to place in a tie for seventh (9-under-par 567) at the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational.The Bucs were powered by sophomore Chase Baldwin (Brandon, Fla.), who shot a team-best 5-under-par 139 (71-68). In addition to Baldwin, fellow sophomore Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) finished tied for 29th (70-72=142 -2), while senior James Johnson (Barbados) is tied for 32nd (73-70=143 -1). Freshman Derek McNamara (Galway, Ireland) and sophomore Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) rounded out the ETSU effort with McNamara finishing tied for 55th (70-76=146 +2) and Hobson at 10-over (81-73=154). In the team event, Clemson -- the nation's top-ranked team -- leads at 24-under par followed by Augusta State at 23-under. Augusta State is also dominating the individual leaderboard, with James Heath and Oliver Wilson currently tied at the top with scores of 9-under 135. The Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational will wrap up Sunday with final round play at the Par 72, 6,875-yard Forest Hills Golf Club. Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational
