Soccer Team Receives National Academic Honor

Friday, January 25, 2002

Johnson City, Tenn. (Jan. 25, 2002) - The East Tennessee State University women's soccer team was honored recently by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and recognized as a "College Team Academic Award Winner". They are one of only 63 Division I institutions whose soccer program received this award. The team carried a 3.1 GPA for the year. "I think this is a great accomplishment for our team. We have tried to make academics a focus in our program and it is nice to see the young ladies' hard work pay off," said head Heather Henson. The award is based on the academic performance of a team during the previous academic year. The teams, which represent all levels of play from NCAA Division I to NAIA, are compiled and nominated by NSCAA coaches from around the country.
