JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (December 31, 2001) -- Georgia Southern senior guard Alie Rousseau scored a career-high 27 points on 10-14 shooting to lead the Lady Eagles to a 75-71 victory over East Tennessee State Monday night from Memorial Center. The Lady Eagles (5-6, 2-1 SoCon) led for most of the first half. Georgia Southern built their lead to as many as nine after a layup by Sarah Davis made the score 29-20 with 5:30 remaining in the half. But ETSU (7-5, 2-1) closed the first stanza with a late flurry, taking the halftime lead, 40-39, after a Megan Jackson (Paris, Tenn.) layup with just 24 seconds remaining in the half. The two teams traded the lead three times within the first five minutes of the first half. Rousseau helped Georgia Southern establish a 51-48 lead with 14:52 remaining after hitting consecutive three-pointers. With 13:25 left in the game, two Ashley Reed (Barrackville, W.Va) free throws would cut the Georgia Southern advantage to just one point, 53-52. Following the free throws, the Lady Eagles would go on a 14-5 run to build their lead to a game-high 10 points, 67-57, with 7:50 remaining in the game. The Lady Bucs would claw back and cut the Georgia Southern lead to just two, 73-71, with 1:14 left in the game. But the Lady Eagles held off ETSU for the victory. Jackson continued her hot play of late for ETSU, scoring a team-high 14 points on 6-10 shooting. She also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in the loss. Sophomore forward Lauren Trantham (Asheville, N.C.) had 12 points on the night and Reed chipped in with 11 points on the night. This marks the eighth consecutive game that the freshman guard has scored in double-digits.
