Lady Bucs Fall to UNC Greensboro, 77-50

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 14, 2002) - UNC Greensboro forced the East Tennessee State Lady Bucs into 26 turnovers, paving the way to a 77-50 victory over ETSU in Southern Conference action Monday night from Memorial Center in Johnson City. UNC Greensboro led 31-19 at halftime, after their smothering defense held the Lady Bucs to 32 percent shooting (9-28) from the floor. ETSU had two prolonged scoreless stretches in the first half, each over four minutes. The Lady Bucs had 15 turnovers in the first half as UNCG collected seven steals. UNC Greensboro came out on fire in the second half, running their lead to 53-22 with 14:16 remaining after a 20-3 run to begin the second half. The Spartans built their lead to as many as 32 points, holding a 56-24 lead with 11:49 left in the game. "We played with no emotion tonight," said ETSU head coach Karen Kemp following the game. "It is frustrating as a coach, but I have to go out and find people who are going to give it their all. I am going to keep working hard and we are going to get back on track." The Lady Bucs were led by freshman forward Candace Gibson (Warner Robins, Ga.), who had nine points on the evening off of the bench. Senior forward Megan Jackson (Paris, Tenn.) and sophomore forward Lauren Trantham (Asheville, N.C.) contributed eight points for ETSU. Trantham pulled down a team-high six rebounds. UNC Greensboro was led by sophomore forward Jacinda Lambert, who came just one point short of her career-high with 18 points. Senior forward Brianne Dodgen and senior center Sandi Reid also scored in double-figures, with 11 and 10 points respectively. Reid had a game-high nine rebounds and also dished out a team-high four assists. With the win, UNC Greensboro moves to 9-5 on the season, 5-1 in Southern Conference play. East Tennessee State falls to 7-9, 2-5 in the SoCon. The Lady Bucs return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. as they travel to Greenville, S.C. as they face SoCon rival Furman. UNC Greensboro heads home to face city rival North Carolina A&T on Wednesday at 5:30 from the Greensboro Coliseum.
