Women's Golf Finishes Fifth in Southern Conference Championships

Johnson City, Tenn. (Apr. 23, 2002) -- Senior Mimmie Dymling (Sollentuna, Sweden) shot a final round 2-over-par 74 to finish second individually (75-74-74=223) and lead East Tennessee State to a fifth place finish in the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championships from Wescott Plantation in North Charleston, S.C. The Buccaneers fired their best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 308 in the final round of play. It was the second best round of the day, as team champion Furman shot a 300. The Paladins won the tournament by 12 strokes (298-299-300=897) over UNC Greensboro. East Tennessee State finished in fifth place (317-312-308=937), just one stroke behind Appalachian State for fourth position (315-303-318=936). Sophomore Kristen Fletcher (Cookeville, Tenn.) shot the best round of her college career on Tuesday, firing a 2-over-par 74. That round propelled Fletcher from a tie for 24th to a 14th place finish (81-80-74=235). Senior Catalina Zuluaga (Cali, Colombia) shot a final-round 80 to finish in a tie for 19th (81-78-80=239). Freshman Danielle O'Reilly (Whistler, British Columbia) was the next Buccaneer finisher, ending the tournament in 22nd (81-80-80=241) after shooting her second-consecutive 80 in the third round of play. Fellow freshman Alysa Few (London, Ontario) rounded out ETSU's tournament, finishing in a tie for 23rd (80-80-82=242) after shooting a 82 in Tuedsday play. Following the tournament, Dymling was named to the 2002 All-Southern Conference Team for the second consecutive season. Dymling was a member of the team in 2001 after finishing in a tie for 10th in the Southern Conference Championships. The Southern Conference Championships bring the 2002 East Tennessee State Women's Golf season to an end.
