NCAA Moves Division I-AA Playoffs Back One Week

Wednesday, September 19, 2001

ASHEVILLE, NC - The Southern Conference today learned from the NCAA that the Division I-AA football playoffs will be moved back one week to allow for the rescheduling of games that were cancelled on September 15. Instead of beginning on November 24 as originally scheduled, the I-AA playoffs will commence on Saturday, December 1. The championship game will be played in Chattanooga on Friday, December 21 at 5:30 and will be televised by ESPN. The original schedule had the championship game being played on December 15. Three Southern Conference games were cancelled in light of last week's terrorist attacks: East Tennessee State at VMI, Georgia Southern at Wofford, and The Citadel at Western Carolina. The Citadel and WCU have already agreed to makeup their game on November 17 at 2 pm in Cullowhee, NC. The other two SoCon games will be rescheduled accordingly. Three non-conference games were also cancelled on September 15: Furman at Liberty, Appalachian State at Troy State, and Kentucky State at Chattanooga. Chattanooga has indicated that it intends to play the Kentucky State game on November 24. For more information on ETSU football or any further reschedulings, log on to www.ETSUBucs.com.
