Baseball Signs Andy Baxter

Tuesday, July 11, 2000

Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State University athletic department announced today that Andy Baxter (Erwin, Tenn.) will transfer from North Carolina State and join head coach Tony Skole's Buccaneer baseball program.

During the past two years at N.C. State, Baxter hit .314 and .346 respectively. The left-handed hitter played both third base and first base for the Wolfpack.

Before attending N.C. State, Baxter enjoyed an outstanding high school career at Unicoi County. He was one of the best players ever to play at Unicoi.

"This is a big day for ETSU baseball," Skole said. "Andy will definitely be a welcome addition to our baseball program. I have no doubt that Andy will step in and make an immediate contribution to our success. He will provide great leadership and add some much needed punch to our lineup. Our coaching staff believes he has the ability to be one of the top players in the Southern Conference."

Cross joins Justin Adams (Kingsport, Tenn.), Brandon Cross (Bluff City, Tenn.), Bryan Crouse (Morristown, Tenn.), Matt Hensley (Knoxville, Tenn.), Josh Kite (Greeneville, Tenn.), Rickey Luttrell (Knoxville, Tenn.), Donnie Sharp (Oak Ridge, Tenn.), Scott Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), and Jeremy Skidmore (Middlesboro, Ky.) in the 2000 recruiting class.
