East Tennessee State Too Much for Radford, 15-2; Bucs 16 Hit Brigade Sinks Highlanders

Tuesday, April 24, 2001

RADFORD, VA - East Tennessee State scored four runs in the first inning and that would be all they would need as they downed Radford University 15-2 in non- conference collegiate baseball action for the Dedmon Center Park on Tuesday afternoon.

East Tennessee State (16-26) would score four runs in the first add three in the fourth and four in the fifth off Radford (11-27) starter Brandon Haywood (0-4) knocking out the freshman in the fifth inning en route to victory.

Ryan McKinny paced the ETSU attack with a 5-for-6 performance including a pair of RBI and four runs scored. Ryan Hayder, Andy Baxter and Brandon Cross each had a pair of hits for the Bucs who improved to 16-26 on the season as 13 of ETSU's 16 hits came from the top six in the order.

Josh Kite worked three inning to pick up the victory allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits. The Bucs bullpen shut down the Highlanders over the final six innings allowing only three Highlander singles the rest of the way.

For Radford, Jeff Swidrak went 2-for-3 and Bobby Ryan drove in both Highlander runs in the third inning with a single to right.

Radford will host cross-town Virginia Tech on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. to close out the 2001 home schedule.
