Buccaneer Softball Signs Four to National Letters of Intent

Monday, November 20, 2000

Johnson City, Tenn. -- East Tennessee State University Buccaneer head softball coach Stephanie DeFeo today announced that Lindsay Lane (Erwin, Tenn.), Lindsay Edmondson(Chattanooga, Tenn.), Danielle Spetar (Knoxville, Tenn) and Emily Kirk (Chattanooga, Tenn.) have signed National Letters of Intent to join the ETSU program.

Lane, a pitcher-third baseman from Unicoi County High School in Erwin, Tenn., has been an all-state selection in Tennessee three years running, her freshman year as a outfielder and the last two years as a pitcher. Lindsay has been named the Northeast Tennessee Player-of-the-Year two years in a row. She has also been named all-district and all-region in each of the last three years and was the MVP of the Watauga Conference last season. Lane batted over .400 in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, and batted over .500 last season. Lindsay will be a an impact to both our pitching staff and our hitting arsenal, DeFeo noted. She will add power at the plate and not only will she be incredible on the mound for us but I believe she will make a huge impact for us on the infield by playing third base.

Edmondson, a pitcher from Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tenn., was an all-state honoree in the state of Tennessee in 1998, 1999 and 2000. She was a 1998 Fast Pitch World All-American, a member of the group AA state and regional championship team in 1998 and 2000, and the Best of Preps MVP pitcher with the city's best ERA in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Edmondson has the honor of being the only pitcher in Tennessee history to pitch complete shutouts in all state tournament games (1998). She also played on the ninth place team in the ASA National Tournament. Lindsay will be very important for our team next year because of her outstanding pitching abilities, said Coach DeFeo. I believe that she can come in and make an impact on both our team and in the Southern Conference.

Spetar, an outfielder from Farragut High School in Knoxville, Tenn., was an all-district honoree in 1999 and 2000 and an all-tournament selection in 1999. She was a two-sport star at Farragut, competing in both softball and basketball. Danielle has power, speed, agility and is an outstanding baserunner, evident by her area-leading 30 stolen bases. Dani will be an asset to us because she has three major components, speed, power and work ethic, that could make her an impact player for any college program, said Coach DeFeo. There is no doubt with all of these components, she will be a threat at the plate and an excellent outfielder for us.

Kirk, a second baseman-outfielder from East Ridge High School in Chattanooga, Tenn., lead her team in virtually every major statistical category in 2000 with five homeruns, 25 RBI's and a .345 batting average. Emily won the East Ridge offensive MVP award last season. She played for the Tennessee Thunder 18 and under team last summer. I believe that Emily can make an impact on this team, said Coach DeFeo. She is a very steady second baseman and her knowledge of the position will be vital for us. At the plate, Emily is a threat because she is very consistent, she has incredible RBI potential.

We can not wait to have these young ladies in our program, DeFeo said of her recruiting class. Each one in their own way can make an impact and take our program to another level.
