Men's Golf Leads After First Round Of NCAA East Regional
Thursday, May 17, 2001 Johnson City, Tenn. -- All five East Tennessee State men's golfers shot under par as the Bucs lead the pack after one round of the NCAA East Regional from the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University.The 14th ranked Bucs made a late charge to finish at 13-under par (275) one stroke ahead of the University of Florida Sophomore Thomas Lee played solid all day, ending the first round in second place at 6-under par after shooting a career-best 66. Lee had six birdies on the day, while carding no bogeys. Senior All-American Chris Wisler shot par through his first nine holes, but shot 4-under par on his final nine. The seventh-ranked Wisler carded an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole, his next to last hole of the round. Wisler is in a tie for fifth, four shots back of the lead. Sophomore Adam Riddering recorded a 2-under par 70, shooting 2-under in his final nine holes after shooting even-par on his first nine. Riddering is in a tie for 16th, six shots back. Senior Pat Beste and sophomore James Johnson finished their first rounds in a tie for 26th at 1-under par (71). Johnson carded four birdies on the day, while Beste was very consistent, finishing his day with two birdies and just one bogey. The Buccaneers will return to action Friday morning in the second round in the NCAA East Regional from Williamsburg, Va. Top 5 Team Results Individual Top-5 and ETSU Finishers |
