Wofford Edges Bucs, 35-31
Saturday, November 04, 2000 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Shaun Fogle rushed 35 yards for the game-winning touchdown Saturday as Wofford beat East Tennessee 35-31. Fogle's touchdown came after East Tennessee's Con Chellis kicked a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, putting the Buccaneers (4-5, 3-4 Southern Conference) ahead 31-28. The Wofford (6-3, 5-2) touchdown was one of three for Fogle, who also scored on runs of 62- and 78-yards. It was a seesaw battle for the two teams, who traded scores throughout the game. A 4-yard touchdown pass from Todd Wells to Cecil Moore tied East Tennessee with Wofford at 21-21 at the half. Wells passed for 307 yards and two touchdowns. But Fogle broke the stalemate for Wofford on the first play of the third quarter with a 78-yard touchdown run. East Tennessee again tied it with under two minutes remaining in the third on a 1-yard run by Carter, setting up the fourth quarter showdown. |
