Men's Tennis Competes At ITA South Atlantic Championships

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The East Tennessee State University men's tennis program will compete in the Top of the Hill/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's South Atlantic Championships at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center from November 3-8 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The top two finishers in both singles and doubles competition automatically qualify for the 2000 Rolex National Indoor Championships, the third leg of the ITA Grand Slam. The National Indoor Championships will be held on February 3-6 in Dallas, Texas.
The qualifying round for the singles' main draw begins Wednesday, November 3. Three ETSU players will attempt to qualify. Senior Ricardo Nava will play top-seeded Yorke Allen of Duke at 9 a.m. The seventh-seed, sophomore Roberto Fernandez, faces Jakob Widange of High Point University at 12:30 p.m. in the first round. Freshman Marcos Pavlovich will face Brad Sullivan of East Carolina at 3:30 p.m. on the opening day.
ETSU will send two teams to the doubles' qualifying round that begins on Wednesday, November 3. Junior Juan Yannuzzi and Pavlovich will receive a bye in the first round and then face the third seed Mardbrink and Gaber of Campbell at 7 p.m. Senior Matt Keeter and Nava will also receive a bye in the opening round, then face the winner of Wadehra/Villarroel (Charleston Southern) and Scarella/Ingham (Florida State).
