Johnson City, Tenn. - Joe Whitson (White House, Tenn.), a junior Athletic Training major and men's basketball trainer, was named the Student Athletic Trainer of the Year at the annual meeting of the Tennessee Athletic Trainers Society.

Whitson was recognized for Outstanding Contributions to the Athletic Training Profession in the State of Tennessee. Whitson has worked with all of the athletic teams at East Tennessee State. Presently, Whitson is completing a rotation with the men's basketball program.

"This award is testament to Joe's passion and dedication for athletic training," said ETSU Head Trainer Jerry Robertson. "We have had numerous outstanding student-trainers over the year's and Joe has excelled since coming here as freshman."

The award, sponsored by Lowry Medical Supply, was awarded at David Lipscomb University in Nashville on Jan. 16.
