ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 11, 2014) – Posting a team-best, final round score of even-par 72, ETSU senior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) finished with an impressive third-place effort on the individual leaderboard Tuesday during the last day of action in the UCF Challenge at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
While Evans was just four strokes off the pace set by individual champion Fanny Cnops of UCF, the Bucs ended the team event tied for seventh in the 19-team field. The Buccaneers, who are currently ranked 51st nationally, finished the event ahead of ranked teams such as No. 29 Tulane, No. 43 SMU and No. 45 Wisconsin.
No. 24-ranked UCF swept the tournament honors by topping No. 22 Iowa State by one stroke.
“We just never really found our groove today, but we are extremely excited with the play of the team this week,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “We competed with and beat teams ranked higher than us right now, and Sian continues to prove what a top level college player she is.”
Along with Evans’ efforts, junior Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) and sophomore Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) both carded quality scores of 2-over 74 on Tuesday. Wahl finished the tournament tied for 18th at even-par 216, while Chin finished tied for 33rd at 3-over 219.
Evans’ third-place showing came courtesy of her three-round score for 4-under-par 212.
The Bucs will return to action March 14 at the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate in Augusta, Ga. For more on ETSU women’s golf throughout the 2013-14 season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women’s golf link.
