JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 13, 2014) – The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Monday that Scott Carter has been named to the new position of senior associate athletic director/chief operating officer.

Carter, who was a fullback and team captain for the Buccaneers from 1998 to 2002, earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from ETSU, and has spent the last 10 years working at the University of Tennessee in various athletic fund raising positions.

He is currently the Tennessee Fund’s Assistant Athletic Director for Development and is responsible for overseeing the premium seating for the athletic department, while working to secure capital contributions for various facility and endowment projects.

“Scott is clearly a rising star in the world of college athletics,” said ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Richard Sander. “We had a very strong pool of candidates that demonstrated how well ETSU is viewed on the national stage. Having someone with Scott’s talents, passion and drive, along with his devotion to the ETSU Bucs in a major leadership position is a coup for our athletic program.”

Carter, who was a summa cum laude graduate of ETSU, said he is excited and grateful for the opportunity to return to Johnson City.

“My wife Kristen and I are thrilled to be returning to our alma mater,” Carter said. “The excitement around ETSU athletics is at an all-time high and it is our blessing to be a part of the future that Dr. Noland and Dr. Sander are leading. We feel humbled by this opportunity and look forward to working each day serving ETSU student-athletes, coaches, the faculty & staff that support them; and all of the fans and contributors that make our programs possible.”

Carter’s and his wife Kristen – who is also a former ETSU student-athlete and graduate – have two girls, Kate and Mia. Carter will begin work at ETSU on Feb. 3.
