Breaking ETSU outdoor men’s triple jump record propels the senior
MACON, Ga. (April 17, 2013) – Senior Jason Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa.) of the ETSU men’s track & field team was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Johnson earned the honor by setting a new ETSU school record in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 15.42m en route to a first-place finish in the event at the Sea Ray Relays on the University of Tennessee campus on Friday, April 12. In setting a school record in the triple jump, Johnson showed his progression from a rookie to a veteran after turning in an 11th place finish as a freshman in his last appearance in the event in Knoxville. Johnson’s victory was just one of six total top finishes for the Buccaneers at the Relays.
The senior currently sits at second-place in the A-Sun in the men’s triple jump this outdoor season.
The honor is Johnson’s third career Field Athlete of the Week Award and his first this season.
