GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 23, 2013) – Freshman Chris Hickman (Centreville, Md.) moved up the leaderboard following the second round of the Furman Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon from the Furman University Golf Club.
The Centreville, Md. native entered the round tied for 58th, but Hickman catapulted his way up the leaderboard after firing a 2-under-par 70, moving into a tie for 26th. Hickman – who had a pair of birdies on the front nine and three more on the back – enters Sunday’s final round at 2-over 146. Meanwhile, freshman Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and sophomore Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) are also tied for 26th. Kristjansson fired a 1-under on the front nine, but double bogeyed the 419-yard, par-4 12th and bogeyed the 469-yard, par-4 13th to finish 2-over on Saturday. Meanwhile, Pugh carded his second straight round with a 73.
Virginia Tech held its four-shot lead over No. 15 North Florida, as the Hokies shot a 2-under-par 286 on Saturday and are at 10-under 566 for the first two rounds. The Hokies also hold a share of the lead on the individual board as Trevor Cone and Iowa State’s Scott Fernandez are tied at 7-under 137.
ETSU fired its second straight 7-over 295 for the tournament and the Bucs are tied for 10th with Georgia State and Gardner-Webb.
The Bucs tee off the final round at 1:10 p.m., Sunday afternoon. ETSU will be paired with Gardner-Webb and Georgia State.
