ORANGE PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2013) – Posting an overall score of 304, the ETSU women’s golf team is currently 11th on the leaderboard and within striking distance of the top squads at the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational following first round action Friday at the Eagle Landing Golf Club.
Junior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) is currently powering the Buccaneers’ efforts, as she carded a team-best score of 3-over-par 75 to tie for 21st on the individual leaderboard. Evans is six strokes back of a pair of competitors who carded rounds of 3-under-par 69.
As a team, the Bucs are 11 strokes behind tournament-leading Campbell, a team which is currently ranked 36th nationally.
“The ladies had a solid day today and we have put ourselves in a good position to attack the course the next two days,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton.
Along with Evans, freshman Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) and junior Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain) both tied for 34th after posting rounds of 76, while sophomore Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) is tied for 47th.
Second round action at the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational is set for Saturday, followed by third and final round play on Sunday.
