Choo/Gerbasi defeated by No. 1 seed
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Oct. 21, 2012) – The ETSU women’s tennis duo of Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and Anna Gerbasi (Mexico City, Mexico) saw its impressive run at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships come to an end in the semifinals on Sunday.
After taking down the No. 4 and No. 6 seeds, Choo and Gerbasi were put up against the No. 1 seed of Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely of Tennessee. The bracket’s top seed was too much for the young Buccaneers to overcome, as Boren and Szekely won the set, 8-1.
“The fact is that we did not come ready to play,” ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant said. “Against a quality team like Tennessee, if you do not execute well you will get beat up, and that’s exactly what happened. It was a great run by Tessie [Choo] and Anna, but today we fell way short.”
The defeat ends ETSU’s weekend, but the Buccaneers still have one fall tournament left on schedule. Friday, Nov. 9, through Sunday, No. 11, the women’s tennis team will compete at the Ditalie Invitational in Ranch Woods, Fla.USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional ChampionshipsComplete ETSU Results – Final Day Doubles - Semifinals(1) Boren/Szekely (UT) def.
