JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2012) – Below are a list of all the ETSU Athletic events taking place for the week of Oct. 15-21.
Men’s Cross Country
This week: Idle
Last week: The Buccaneer men’s cross country team made their final tune-up before the Atlantic Sun Championships by turning in a third-place finish on Friday evening at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. ETSU finished behind Wake Forest and George Mason, while junior Anders Ludvigsen (Odense, Denmark) led the Blue and Gold by placing 12th (10th collegiate runner) with a time of 25:01.14 in the 8K race. The Bucs now turn their focus to the 2012 A-Sun Championships, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Women’s Cross Country
This week: Idle
Last week: Like the men, the ETSU women’s cross country team also ran in Boone on Friday evening as the Bucs turned in an eighth-place showing at the Blue Ridge Open. Overall, ETSU averaged a time of 19:10.53 on the 5K course with freshman runner Katie Hirko (Oley, Pa.) pacing the Blue and Gold with a third-place finish. Hirko clocked in at 18:04.47. Friday also marked the final regular season race for ETSU as the Bucs now gear up for the conference championships in two weeks.
This week: The Bucs return to action this weekend when ETSU heads to Alpharetta, Ga. for the U.S. Collegiate Championship. The three-day, three-round tournament begins Friday. Oct. 19, at The Golf Club of Georgia.
Last week: The ETSU men’s golf team returned to the course this past weekend, finishing ninth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club. The Bucs carded a three-round score of 8-over-par 872, while sophomore Scott Gibson (Southerness, Scotland) led the Blue and Gold by tying for 23rd after totaling a 2-over-par 218 on the weekend.
This week: Idle
Last week: The ETSU women’s golf team posted a three-round score of 932 at the Hoosier Fall Invitational last weekend, placing the Bucs sixth overall in the 13-team field. Individually, junior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) led the way for the Bucs, carding a 4-over-par 76 on Sunday and finishing tied for 15th at the Belterra Resort.
Men’s Soccer (7-5-2, 3-1-0 A-Sun)
This week: The Bucs play their final home game of the 2012 regular season when ETSU hosts Atlantic Sun newcomer, Northern Kentucky, on Friday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Fans can watch all the action for free on ASun.TV, while live stats will be available via ETSUBucs.com.
Last week: ETSU enjoyed a successful week as the Bucs kept their unbeaten streak versus ranked teams intact with a 2-2 draw against No. 18 Wake Forest on Tuesday night. Red-shirt freshman Emmanuel Wilson (Memphis, Tenn.) scored a miraculous goal with three seconds remaining in regulation against the Demon Deacons, which tied the game at two and eventually extended ETSU’s home unbeaten streak over ranked foes to six straight games. Earlier in the match, junior David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored the first goal of the game, marking the 21st of his career and surpassing former Buccaneer Aaron Schoenfeld for the most in program history. The Blue and Gold followed that up with a 3-0 victory at Lipscomb on Saturday in Nashville. Geno broke his own record for goals in a single-season with his score in the 54th minute to put the Bucs ahead by two. The goal was the 10th of Geno’s 2012 campaign. Meanwhile, junior Luis Calzadilla (Caracas, Venezuela) also made history as he scored just 24 seconds into the game, which was the fastest goal in ETSU’s tenure.
Women’s Soccer (11-4-0, 5-2-0 A-Sun)
This week: The Bucs close out the 2012 regular season with a trip to the River City as ETSU takes on Jacksonville Friday night and North Florida on Sunday. Friday’s match at Jacksonville is slated for 7 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex, while Sunday’s game versus the Ospreys is set to kickoff at 1 p.m. from Hodges Stadium. The Jacksonville game will be broadcast on ASun.TV and live stats will be available for the UNF match by visiting UNFOspreys.com.
Last week: ETSU closed out the home portion of its schedule with a pair of wins over Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb. On Friday night, the Bucs went into halftime with a one-goal lead, and maintained it throughout the second half to walk away victorious, 2-1, over the Norse. Junior defender Samantha Kron (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) scored the first goal of the game when she sent in a long free kick through a crowded box, which skipped by everybody and harmlessly rolled inside the right post. Later in the opening half, freshman midfielder Megan Wynne (St. Albans, England) put in her first collegiate goal to snap a 1-all game and put ETSU up for good. On Sunday, the Lady Bucs capped off an emotional “Senior Day” – honoring Katherine Musacchio (Nashville, Tenn.), Morgan Thomas (Maryville, Tenn.) and Ramey Kerns (Kings Mountain, N.C.) pregame – with a 1-0 victory over Lipscomb. Kron put in her second goal of the weekend, netting the game’s only score in the 17th minute and moving her season total to four. The win also secured the Blue and Gold a spot in the 2012 Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship. The Lady Bucs currently sit fourth with 15 points, but are only two points shy of league-leading Mercer.
This week: The ETSU men’s tennis team wraps up its fall season when the Bucs travel to Memphis for the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, which begins Friday, Oct. 19 and ends Tuesday, Oct. 23. Visit ETSUBucs.com for full recaps following each day of competition.
Last week: Fernando Amon (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Connor Knox (Bristol, Tenn.) represented ETSU at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational. Amon advanced to the D1 Singles Flight quarterfinals, before being ousted to the fifth-place bracket. In the four-man bracket, Amon defeated Elon’s Dan Sablik in the first match, but fell on the final day. Overall, Amon finished sixth in his flight and Knox finished 12th in the D2 Singles Flight. The two Bucs also teamed up for doubles play, finishing 12th in the C Doubles Flight.
This week: The women’s tennis team continues its fall season by traveling to West Lafayette, Ind. for the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships. The five-day tournament begins Wednesday. Full recaps with scores will be posted on ETSUBucs.com.

Volleyball (15-8, 6-3 A-Sun)
This week: The Bucs hit the road for four straight matches, beginning Tuesday night at Kennesaw State. The Kennesaw game is set for 7 p.m. inside the KSU Convocation Center. From there, ETSU heads to USC Upstate for a Friday night match inside the G.B. Hodge Center. First serve with the Spartans is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats for the Kennesaw game will be provided by KSUOwls.com, while the Upstate game will be streamed live on ASun.TV.
Last week: ETSU enjoyed a perfect week as the Bucs went 3-0 with wins over Mercer (3-1), Jacksonville (3-0), and North Florida (3-1). For the week, the Blue and Gold hit .255 (149-51-385) and averaged 13.55 kills, 12.82 assists, and 15.64 digs per set. Junior Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) generated a pair of double-doubles after finishing with 21 kills and a career high 26 digs in the win over Mercer, while adding 13 kills, 11 digs, and a career best seven blocks Saturday against UNF. Sophomore Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) enjoyed an outstanding weekend as she tallied 32 kills and 21 blocks in the three matches, and fellow sophomore Jamie Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) provided 11.73 assists per set for the week.
