SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2012). – ETSU junior transfer Lourdes Lopez (Cadiz, Spain) tied for 26th on the individual leaderboard, helping lead the Buccaneers’ women’s golf team to a seventh-place standing following first and second round play Monday in the Cardinal Cup hosted by the University of Louisville at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
The Bucs – who finished ahead of eight teams in the 15-team field – are 13 strokes back of team leader Louisville and still in contention.
“Our goal today was to play process golf,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “Confidence is in the simple decisions and we did that well. If we can play tomorrow like we did our first round today, the ladies are capable of winning.”
While Lopez finished the day at 151 (77-74), the Bucs had four players end the day within three strokes of each other. Junior Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and senior Chloe Garner (Somerset West, South Africa) are both tied for 32nd at 153, while sophomore Gabrielle Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) is tied for 42nd at 154.
Emily Haas of Louisville is the individual leader at 69-69=138.
The Bucs will continue with third and final round play at the Cardinal Cup on Tuesday, and fans can watch live scoring and get complete results by visiting Golfstat.com.
