GREENVILLE, S.C. (Mar. 18, 2012) – The ETSU men’s golf team closed out the 43rd Annual Furman Intercollegiate with a 14th place finish after recording a 298 (+10) team score in Sunday’s final round.
Freshman Scott Gibson (Dumfries, Scotland) led the Bucs on the final day by carding an even-par 72 to finish tied for 52nd at +6 (76-74-72—222).
Redshirt senior Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) was the highest ETSU finisher as he tied for 48th at +5 (69-76-76—221) on the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course layout.
No. 14 Clemson won the team title for the third straight year after compiling a 54-hole tournament record 26-under 838 team score for the event. The Tigers shot a tournament-low round of 16-under (272) on Sunday to take the title by 12 shots over second place Virginia Tech. Wofford and Coastal Carolina tied for third at 4-under, while No. 21 Georgia and Troy tied for fifth at 3-over.
Sebastian Soderberg of Coastal Carolina took home individual medalist honors after recording his third straight round of 68 to finish at 12-under overall. Matt Thompson of Michigan finished in second at 10-under, while No. 27-ranked Corbin Mills of Clemson came in third at 8-under. Teammates Thomas Bradshaw and Crawford Reeves of Clemson rounded out the top-five as the duo finished tied for fourth at 7-under.
The ETSU freshmen duo of Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) and Sam Edwards (Bigbury, England) finished tied for 57th at +7 (223). Tom Heggarty (Cheshire, England) recorded a final round 76 to round out the ETSU scoring.
The Bucs will return to action on Monday, April 9 at the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
