Junior sprinter won 400m dash with personal indoor best

MACON, Ga. (March 7, 2012) – Junior ETSU track and field sprinter Tim O’Dell (Palm Coast, Fla.) won the 400m dash at last Saturday’s Virginia Tech Last Chance meet in Blacksburg Va., and on Wednesday was recognized by the Atlantic Sun as the conference’s Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.

The award is O’Dell’s first of his collegiate career and is the first A-Sun Men’s Track Athlete of the Week ETSU has earned through this year’s indoor and outdoor seasons. Freshmen Jadon Short (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and K’Vonte Scott (Virginia Beach, Va.) were each named A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week earlier in the year.

Two weeks after taking the gold in the 400m at the A-Sun Indoor Championships and setting a new A-Sun Indoor meet record, O'Dell and the ETSU track and field program traveled to the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet. In his first 400m performance since the A-Sun Indoors, O’Dell beat out the field again with a new personal indoor best time of 48.13. The mark also extended O’Dell’s No. 1 ranking in the conference in the event.

The ETSU track and field program begins the outdoor season March 15-17, when it travels to Charlotte, N.C., for the 49er Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte.
