JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (December 8, 2011) – The ETSU baseball program signed outfielder Jeremy Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.) to a national letter of intent to join the program for 2012-13, head coach Tony Skole announced on Thursday.
Taylor, a 6-foot-1 180-pound outfielder, will join the Buccaneer program from Fayette County High School, where he currently plays for head coach Lee McDermott. Taylor will enroll in school in the fall of 2012.
“Our coaching staff is extremely excited about Jeremy Taylor,” said Skole. “Jeremy was a huge sign for our program. It was a priority in this class to sign an outfielder who can really defend and also be able to hit near the top of our order, and Jeremy definitely meets those requirements. Jeremy is a dynamic athlete who can really put pressure on the defense. He gets down the line as good as anybody that we saw all summer.”
As a junior last year, Taylor hit .400 with three homeruns and 21 RBIs, while being named a Underclass High Honorable Mention All-American by Perfect Game. He was also named Underclass Honorable Mention by Perfect Game in 2010.
A two-sport star, Taylor also excels on the basketball court, where he led the Tigers to the 2011 Region Championship.
”Jeremy is a fantastic young man who comes from a great family,” added Skole. “He is an excellent overall athlete, as he is currently starting for one of the top high school basketball programs in the state of Georgia. Jeremy is one of those players that can win you a game in many different ways. He is going to bring a lot of excitement to our program and will make a huge impact.”
