Senior duo add to Lady Bucs' postseason honors
FT. MYERS, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2011) – At the conclusion of the Atlantic Sun Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship, on Sunday, ETSU seniors Jessica Hiltenbrand (Bartlett, Tenn.) and Caitlin Gaughan (Indianapolis, Ind.) were named to the Championship’s All-Tournament Team.
“Jess [Hiltenbrand] and Caitlin [Gaughan] certainly deserve the recognition of this award,” said ETSU head coach Adam Sayers. “Their contributions last Friday, and their consistent high level of play, were representative of the way they have played throughout the entire season. Both were significant contributors to the team’s success and I’m very proud of them.”
The ETSU women's soccer team traveled to Ft. Myers, Fla. to compete in its first semifinal since 2007. Although the Lady Bucs fell to an overtime goal by Mercer’s Ali Meek, Hiltenbrand and Gaughan put up an incredible defensive effort through the entire 95 minutes.
As the senior leader of ETSU's back line, Hiltenbrand helped to fend off 15 shots and force most of Mercer’s opportunities to be taken from distance. Gaughan, playing in her last game as a Lady Buc as well, finished with one of her best performances. The senior keeper made seven saves to keep ETSU alive into overtime.
