CLINTON, S.C. (March 16, 2011) - Coming off a six-game homestand this past weekend, the ETSU softball team takes the road again for a brief trip as the Bucs face Presbyterian in a Thursday afternoon doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the PC Softball Complex.
ETSU (8-14), who won four of its six games at the inaugural Buccaneer Challenge, was led by the strong offensive output from senior Katie Henderson (Jackson, Tenn.) and freshman Jackie Baird (Ooltewah, Tenn.). The Buccaneer duo combined to hit .500 (20-40) with five doubles, five home runs and 21 RBI over the weekend en route to being named to the Buccaneer Challenge All-Tournament Team. Henderson went 10-for-19 (.526) at the dish with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBI and Baird hit .476 (10-21) with two doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI. In addition to Henderson and Baird, junior Marlina Delisa (Tucson, Ariz.) finished the tournament strong with her 4-for-6 effort in the 16-2 victory over North Carolina A&T on Sunday.
Presbyterian (9-2-1) faces Winthrop in a doubleheader on Wednesday after it was rained out Tuesday afternoon.
The Blue Hose are led by junior right-hander Leslie Hensley's 6-1 record and 0.78 ERA (5ER/45.0IP), while senior short stop Amanda Miller is hitting a team-leading .435 with a double, two home runs and nine RBI. As a team, Presbyterian is 4-0 at home on the year and has been successful in 32 of its 36 stolen base attempts, while the Blue Hose pitchers have limited the opposition to a .195 batting average.
