PALOS VERDES, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2011) - Freshman Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and junior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain) carded rounds of 74 and 75, respectively, leading the ETSU women's golf team during final round play Wednesday at the 2011 Northrop Gruman Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State University at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Evans and Vizcarrondo posted the best overall finishes of any Buccaneer players, tying for 36th on the individual leaderboard. As a team, the Bucs finished in 11th on the team leaderboard, two strokes ahead of No. 30 Louisville.
Playing in one of the toughest fields the ETSU women have ever faced - including three of the nation's Top 15 teams - the Bucs looked on as No. 3-ranked Southern Cal held off Arizona State by two strokes for the team title.
Individually, Arizona State's Carlota Ciganda finished at 2-over 215 (73-70-72) to best Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary for the tournament championship.
While Evans and Vizcarrondo finished at 19-over 232 for the tournament, other ETSU results included a tie for 42nd by senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria).
