Pregame concert and tailgate set for Saturday, special "Dollar Night" promotion scheduled on Monday
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2011) - As the ETSU women's basketball team gears up for its final regular season homestand, the Lady Buccaneer Grant Team has implemented some special gameday promotions for Saturday and Monday.
On Saturday, when ETSU hosts North Florida at 1:30 p.m. inside the MSHA Athletic Center, the Lady Bucs have joined arms with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for its annual Pink Zone game. Over the past four years, the WBCA Pink Zone initiative has raised an immense amount of awareness for breast cancer, as well as a significant amount of donations for women's cancer research.
ETSU has made a special ticket incentive for Saturday's game as fans who wear pink - in honor of breast cancer and the WBCA Pink Zone initiative - receive admission for only $1. In honor of the Pink Zone game, the Lady Bucs will wear pink socks, shoelaces and shooting shirts; while the officials will be sporting pink whistles. In addition, specially made pink ETSU WBCA Pink Zone shirts will be on sale for $10, and items will be available to bid on during a silent auction on Saturday. Also, at halftime, ETSU faculty and staff members that have battled breast cancer will be recognized on the court.
Saturday is also Family Day and the Lady Bucs have teamed up with WCQR to have former Miss Johnson City Jessica Nixon perform a special pregame concert beginning at 11:15 a.m. Doors to the Dome open at 11 a.m., and the first 300 fans will be treated to free food. Meanwhile, tailgate games and inflatables will be set up for children and families to participate in; while several ETSU organizations will be on hand for a "Charity Carnival."
All the proceeds from the Pink Zone-Family Day event will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Monday night - when the Lady Bucs face Jacksonville at 7 p.m. - seniors Tara Davis (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Latisha Belcher (Martinsville, Va.) will be recognized with a pregame ceremony as it marks their final home game in a Lady Buccaneer uniform. Davis, who is only the third player in program history to have scored over 1,000 points and dish out 400 assists, is looking to become the first player in ETSU history to play in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments. Meanwhile, Belcher has battled through multiple knee surgeries in order to be active for her final year, and she currently ranks 17th all-time on the ETSU scoring chart and third in steals.
ETSU fans will be treated to a special "Dollar Night" promotion for the Jacksonville game as everything from admission - with two canned food items - to food and drink inside the concession booths are only $1. Bring your "Valentine" to the game and receive a special limited edition giveaway courtesy of Johnson City Honda (first 500 fans). In addition, one lucky student will walk away with a prize pack; while students who have attended additional home games will have more chances to win.
